2Pet.3:9
“This means that, contrary to man’s perspective, the Lord is not late with his promise to return, as some measure lateness. But rather, his “delay” simply reveals his loving patience toward you, because he does not want any to perish but all to come to repentance.”
Whatever God does is with a good and beneficial reason for man, unfortunately however, men supposes that it is either God lacks the capacity to bring His Word to pass or that He is only a scaremonger; it was so in the days of Noah, who, despite crying around for people to repent of their sins and come into the Ark was laughed to scorn, it was also the case in the days of Lot in the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, he went calling his own to come out of the city because of the impending destruction God was bringing to it, he was viewed as a fanatical lunatic, in each of these cases, God’s patient waiting for the people to repent was ignored, quite surprisingly, the same scenario is playing out and still the case today. Despite the proliferation of Churches and widespread knowledge of the Word of God, including the information that the world will come to an end (or death will happen before then), and the impending coming of the Lord, majority of people continue to discountenance these facts, even amongst believer! Unfortunately, we have heard people say, “well, this has been ongoing for over two thousand years now, yet He has not come back, is He really coming back at all?”
Matt.5:18
“For truly I tell you, until the sky and earth pass away and perish, not one smallest letter nor
one little hook [identifying certain Hebrew letters] will pass from the Law until all things [it
foreshadows] are accomplished.”
Every Word of God will come to pass, but He determines when, where and how. That the Lord has not returned is God’s way of doing things, He is merciful and patient. He does not want anyone to perish, so He keeps sending His prophet to go into the world and preach the good news to all creature, He delights in seeing souls saved than them perishing. That the Lord is patient does not mean He is weak, unable or late. Have you been taking this window of opportunity to come surrender your life to Jesus and/or live a life of holiness and purity for granted, or are you aware of someone still living in sin? it behoves you to kindly remind them, that this world is not our home, we are mere pilgrims, at the end of individual life, we will go back home and give account of our stewardship and be judged accordingly. It will be not be amusing to end up on the other side of Heaven.
To make matter more precarious is the fact that no one knows the day of death or when the world will come to an end, therefore we must be prepared for it every day. That the Lord has not come does not mean He is late, but an opportunity for many more to come to salvation.
Have you given your life to Jesus? Are you living right in Him? Remember, the day of the Lord
will come like a thief in the night…..be ready!
